Roque Gameiro spent days and days hiking along the Portuguese shore, sometimes renting a house in the neighborhood, sometimes camping at the beach. "He wanted to watch the sunrise and the sunset, he wanted to feel the ocean roar ... From Adraga to Ericeira to Nazaré, there was no beach scene he did not examine," writes his daughter Màmía. The multiple watercolors painted during these excursions are the best proof that "no one ever painted the sea as he did."
