Roque Gameiro's Amadora house (currently a museum) was a true art school. Sketching and watercolor painting took pride of place among the various family activities. While the father prepares an illustration for a book, Helena paints a still life with a flower arrangement, Raquel places the finishing touches on a picture for a magazine, and Màmía works on her oil painting.

To draw and to paint were as natural as to sleep and to eat and to play; birthday gifts and jokes frequently included a sketch or a caricature. And so, in addition to the customary family photo album, the Roque Gameiro clan accumulated an enviable set of family portraits painted by the family members themselves.
